Hostess Dress

ok, so this isn't so much a "new design" for me (I've been making versions of the Hostess Dress for 8 years now), but I've given it some new tweaks and options that make it fresh & even more fabulous.

Pretty much the perfect attire for when you're throwing a party ... or just want to feel like you are.

Custom-fit & hand-made, one at a time, by me,
just for you.

"new" hostess dress: smaller collar

Hostess Dress design details:
  • modest v-neckline with your choice of collars: both are lined, shaped at the shoulders, & cross-over at center back of neck = so they look good folded down or standing (retro) up to frame your face.  "Classic" is large & lovely; "New" is smaller and rounded
  • fitted bodice (top) with under-bust gathering at the top of the waistband panel ("classic" has a panel just in the front, "new" has a panel all the way around).
  • short sleeves with gathering at shoulders (can also be cut with more "puff", length, or larger cuffs)
  •  full skirted bottom, in your choice of styles = gathered, small-pleated, or 4-gore (which is just as full at the hem but cut on the bias to have less fabric at the waist)

some handmade touches:
  • closes with side-seam zipper
  • optional:  pockets!  look at all of the options! patch pockets, hidden side-seam pockets, small, large, huge, with trims or without.
  • optional:  so many trim choices!

"classic" hostess dress: larger collar

yardage requirements for the Hostess Dress:
4 to 6 yards (depending on fabric width, dress size, & skirt style)

(1 full- or queen-sized flat sheet is usually adequate)
Suggested fabrics:  just about anything.
Seriously, I've made Hostess Dresses in a range of wovens (from silk satin to vintage bed sheets),
as well as knits (double-knit works quite well for a vintage-waitress look)
